Another Birch to add to the world's collective. We'll just pretend this one isn't really sitting in the knitting bag along with the shaped cardigan and the gansey.

Hiking Gansey
And here's the start of the gansey. I love the Satakieli--soft and slightly bouncy, if that makes any sense. The wool really seemed to bloom once I washed the gauge swatch, so I computed my stitch count based on the gauge after washing. Hope it comes out alright!
Sockapal-2-za Pattern
Here's what I plan to knit for my Sockapal-2-za pal. I've been peeking at her site and I think she'll like the lace work. But, I have to wait to start--the pattern suggests using Satakieli (which I'm using for the gansey in progress and am loving it), so I'm going to wait until I get to Meg's camp later this month to choose a color in person.

Sockapal-2-za Begins
This week I received my secret sock pal from Alison. I visited her site and am scheming options. Hopefully I'll come up with something she will like!
Colin's Hiking Sweater--the beginning
OK. So we won't go into the fact that I really shouldn't be starting a new project until the shaped cardigan is finished (and I haven't even yet mentioned Birch). But here's the thing--there's no way my sister will be wearing that in the summer's weather, and I did promise Colin a hiking sweater which, if I get in gear, he might really be able to wear this season. I'm using Satakieli wool, from Finland, ordered through Schoolhouse Press. I love the color--it's really more rust than the orange that comes through the photo. I'm thinking a gansey, but with possibly a Swedich Block pattern (from Barbara Walker's A Treasury of Knitting Patterns) across the sweater's top--you can see the pattern at the top of my swatch. And, requested by the wearer-to-be, an untraditional zip neck for venting and mosquito protection. The wool is springy and soft--can't wait to get started on this.
Christmas Sweater Redux
The front half of a shaped cardigan. So this sweater was finished--really--a few months ago. Intended to be a Christmas sweater for my sister, this shaped cardigan, knitted in pieces as per the pattern, ended up having seams that were too tight and uncomfortable. And, while the back was perfect, the front was a little too tight. So, I was faced with at least two choices: reknit the fronts, or reknit the whole shebang circularly. I went with door #2. It's coming along nicely, albeit a little slowly. Hopefully she'll have it in time for next Christmas. Two birds with one stone, right?
Anklets
This is another pair of socks using the Regia wool mentioned before, but this time I did them toe-up, with short-row toes and heels, and ending an inch or so above the heel. Great for summer--and stylish enough to wear with my new Keen's. Cool, baby.
Striped baby hat
Catch-up day... This baby hat used up some Tahki Cotton Classic, although I then had to run out to get some turquoise, hot pink, and gold to make another... ah well.

Sockapal-2-za
Sockapal-2-za yippee! I think I made it in to Alison's second sockapalooza fest. Can't wait to find out who I'm knitting for!
