Charity Mittens

These are Kristi's Mittens from Nancy Bush's Folk Knitting in Estonia. The wool is Satakieli; the colors are much deeper than these photos convey. I loved knitting these! The rhythm of knitting the wheels was soothing and speedy. While the fishtail cuff looks like entrelac, they are super easy to knit, and I love the harlequin-like result. Size 0s, metal dpns.

While I'd originally planned these as a Christmas present, I instead donated them to our school's silent auction, and they brought in $50. Woohoo! Someday, a pair for myself in turquoise and green.

Tomorrow, an early birthday present to myself: a class with Beth Brown-Reinsel on Swedish Knitting Techniques and Twined Knitting. Can't wait!

Very nice mittens! Oh how I'd love to take a class with Beth! And, really wish I could have gone to the Nordic Conference.

These are very pretty. You've inspired me to revisit this book and try one of the Estonian patterns. Beautiful work.
